DAVIS, DONNELLY, SUNN WINNERS AT CANAAN DIRT…. June 26, 2009
Canaan, NH- Mitchell Davis, Chris Donnelly and Josh Sunn win at the Canaan Dirt Speedway’s awesome racing action Friday night. Will Hull and James Hanson also show their best to take the victory lane stroll for the fans.
Canaan Dirt Speedway Q106 weekly racing series as presented by Tom Cady Chimney Sweeps, LLC went off without a hitch even though the weather was not the most cooperative in the surrounding Upper Valley. A full card of racing with guest appearance by the Mid State Auto 360 SCoNE sprint cars was a crowd pleaser for sure. The fans were treated to a great show and the racers were able to put on that fantastic show due to the new and improved track surface that was in place for the night’s events.
The SK Bean Enfield Garage Bandits were up first. The drivers were brought out to the front stretch of the track and they were introduced to the fans. Seventeen drivers were in attendance to take the green. Starting on the pole were #81 Armand Boucher and #77 Randy Rice, but Boucher would head to the pits due to a mechanical issue before the green flag would fly. On the start, the battle would be for the top spot but the caution flag flew before a lap was completed so it was back to the drawing board for the restart. Once the race was officially started, the action was now beginning to shape up. Rice would feel the pressure from #63 Todd Buckwold and #68 Bruce McKay and on the way to the front as well was the #38 Mitchell Davis. Davis would get to third and then it was Buckwold in his sights next. Rice was also on that list and at the last few laps; Davis would take the lead and not look back. At the checkers it would be #38 Mitchell Davis for the win, along with #77 Randy Rice for second and #63 Todd Buckwold for a well deserved third.
Papa Z’s Modifieds were next and the field was brought to the green by #78 Ed Tobin and #75 Toby Stark. Tobin would jump to the lead but Stark wouldn’t have it. As the first few laps clicked by, Tobin would succumb to Stark and the race was now on for Stark to stay there and make another visit to victory lane this week. The move was on from the rear by #17 Chris Donnelly and #82 Randy Howe to get to the front and mid way thru the race Howe was doing just that. Howe would follow suit and by the time the five to go was given, Howe captured second while Donnelly coasted by for the lead. Stark put on a great fight to keep the lead but would hold onto third until the checkered flag flew. For the win it would be #17 Chris Donnelly, with #82 Randy Howe for second and #75 Toby Stark for third.
NAPA Auto Parts Mini Stocks hit the dirt with #71 Leon Dugan and #03 Dalton Varney on the pole positions. Dugan would take the lead and Varney would fall back leaving the door open for the #51 Chris Gray to get to the front. On the move was #11 Josh Sunn and #12 Andy Johnson to challenge the front runners and the action was heating up as the laps clicked by. Dugan would fall back to second falling to Gray but Sunn was also sliding into the picture and would eventually go door to door with Gray for several laps before getting the first position from Gray. At the checkered flag it would be #11 Josh Sunn for the win, #51 Chris Gray for second and #71 Leon Dugan for third.
The winged warriors were next, aka, the Mid State Auto Sales 360 SCoNE sprints cars. What a fantastic show they put on. The field went from green to checkers without a caution and what an outstanding show it was. Starting in the pole positions were #60 James Hanson and #33 Lacey Hanson bringing the field to the green flag and J. Hanson would be your leader from the start and not look back. From the back, #18L Shawn Lawler would be on the move and Lawler wouldn’t be alone. #11 Tunk Berry would be moving to gain positions knowing that Lawler would be closing in for sure. Berry would get by L. Hanson and then play the cat and mouse game with J.Hanson but Lawler would be in the mix now and before two laps were complete, Lawler was by Berry and his sights were set on J.Hanson but the laps ended before he could complete the mission. At the checkers it would be #60 James Hanson for the win, #18L Shawn Lawler for second and #11 Tunk Berry for third.
The last division to complete our night of racing event was the ADW Builders Street Stocks. #2 Orin Howe and #18 Rob Gallagher would bring the field out of turn four and an early caution would see Howe retiring to the pits for the remainder of the race. #63 Trevor Rocke and #14 TC Forward would be battling for the first spot and the #97 Allan Hammond was on the hunt to help them sort it out. Hammond would take the lead and continue with it until from the rear, point’s leader #8 Dan Eastman was moving forward and also #61 Will Hull was looking to get there as well. Hammond would feel the pressure and eventually would be passed by both Hull and Eastman. Hull would be the leader with Hammond in second and with only half a lap to go Eastman would make the move on Hammond and out of turn four for the checkers, Eastman would edge out Hammond for second leaving Hammond to settle for third. For the win it would be #61 Will Hull, #8 Dan Eastman for second and #97 Allan Hammond for third.
