Harrington, Hammond, Sanville Take Wins at Canaan Dirt…. August 29, 2008
Canaan, NH- As the intense racing action continues, winners that prevailed after Friday’s racing program are more than deserving of their achievements.
Canaan Dirt Speedway Q106 weekly racing series as presented by Russell’s Rt 118 Automotive had it’s moments with three red flags and a division that will see double features for their show this coming week.
The first division to hit the track was the Papa Z’s Modifieds. Starting on the pole positions was #4 Dave Lacasse and #81x Louie Cadwell. Taking the lead out of turn four, Cadwell would hold onto it for several laps before the first caution flag would wave. On the restart, Cadwell would feel the pressure from a couple of competitors that were working their way to the front. #96 Jason Sanville and #01 Ryan Avery was on the hunt for a win. #1 Wayne Stearns was also on the move coming from mid pack to make a dent in the racing action in the front. Also, a newcomer to the field but not to the Modifieds division was #17 Chris Donnelly moving from the rear to challenge the entire field. The action was intense and the racing between these guys was true entertainment for the fans. Sanville took the lead from Cadwell and didn’t look back. Stearns was now challenging Cadwell for second and Avery was putting the pressure on Cadwell for third. Sanville ran away with the lead but the most intense, clean racing action was for the third position. Avery and Cadwell having raced together in the Sportsman Coupe division, shown great respect for each other and true sportsmanship prevailed at the checkered flag. #96 Jason Sanville for the win, with #1 Wayne Stearns for second and #01 Ryan Avery for a well deserving third place.
Next was the SK Bean Enfield Garage Bandits. On the pole positions was #74 Shane Eldridge and #43 Matt Boucher. With a full field, 19 cars, this division has proven to be a challenge yet fun group to watch. After several cautions, they got down to the work at hand and weeded out the issues to complete their twenty lap feature. At the checkered flag the win would go to #03 Jackson Varney, with #44x Jeremy Colson the current points leader for second and #16 Josh Connors for third.
Our guest division for the evening was the Freedom Graphics 360 SCONE cars. On the pole was the #1 Chris Sweeney and #X2 Curt Bradshaw bringing the field to the green out of turn four. What a rush to watch these guys and gal, race at our facility. The challenge was on for getting the feature completed in a timely fashion. As the laps clicked by the action intensified and so did the breathe taking action. At just before half way, the first of two red flags occurred. The first involved #5 Mike Kondrat and #59 Chad Dow. Both drivers faired OK but their cars did not, ending their racing for the night. On the restart, #6x Mark Cole would take the lead and hold on to it for at least few laps when the second red flag would appear. This one was for #88 Silas Alan and #1 Chris Sweeney, our pole sitter. Sweeney was able to continue the race but Alan was done for the rest of the feature. At the checkers it would be #6x Mark Cole for the win, with #18 Shawn Lawler for second and #58 Clay Dow for third.
LaValley’s Building Supply’s Sportsman Coupes was next. On the pole was #03 AJ Gelsi along with #18 Dick Lamotte. Lamotte would take the lead and work his groove hard to hold onto it but the points leader #3 Josh Harrington had other ideas. #81 Louie Cadwell would also be on the move towards the front to challenge Harrington for the top spot. The caution flag would wave and Lamotte would see his night end due to mechanical failure giving the lead to Harrington on the restart. Challenging Harrington was #42 Earl Maxham and #33 Melvin Pierson. Pierson, who has had his share of tough luck this season, would put on a great fight to get to the front. Cadwell, trying to hard to get to Harrington, in turns three and four would get loose and spin out bringing out the second caution of the feature. On the restart, Harrington would sail away with the lead leaving Maxham and Pierson in his dust competing for second and third. Cadwell would work his way back to the front but would only get to fourth before the checkered flag would wave. At the checkers it would be #3 Josh Harrington for the win, #42 Earl Maxham for second and #33 Melvin Pierson making his way to victory lane for third.
On deck was the ADW Builders Street Stocks. Starting on the pole was #5 Shawn Berry and #97 Allan Hammond. With only his third start, Hammond would take the lead on the onset and not look back. Looking like he raced all season, Hammond glided into the top spot and the challenge was on from the other competitors to catch Hammond before time would run out. With several cautions, the field would reset and Hammond would continue to lead. Working his way from the mid pack position, #23 Jason Giguere would try to challenge Hammond but points leader #61 Will Hull would also be on the move and get to Hammond first. Unfortunately, time would run out before Hammond would be caught. At the checkers it would be #97 Allan Hammond for the win, with #61 Will Hull for second and #23 Jason Giguere for his first visit to victory lane this season for third.
NAPA Auto Parts Mini Stocks was the last division to hit the clay. On the pole was #03x Dalton Varney and #50 Tyler Stygles for the green flag out of turn four. On lap one, contact with several cars would see #20 Brandon Lemere facing the wrong direction on the backstretch outside of turn two. With the first caution flag being waved, the field would soon see the red lights and red flag for a fire on the track. A fuel leak from Lemere’s car was ignited and quickly attended to by speedway officials. With the restart, another caution would come to pass and because of time constraints, the race was called. That means the division will complete the unfinished race and then race their regular feature later in the evening doing double duty for the fans.
